Team Infinite Fighter JJ Mondragon shines at Ring of Fire 36: Demolition!

Congratulations to our fighter JJ Mondragon for his victory on the Ring of Fire on Friday, December 4th! The Ring of Fire is regarded as the highest caliber promotion in the State of Colorado and this show was no exception featuring 7 UFC veterans!

JJ faced a tough opponent and won, also securing "Fight of the Night" honors!

Here is the write up by J.R Gordon from www.mmabuzz.com

"JJ Mondragon faced Zach Valdez. Round one had both fighters landing solid strikes both in and out of the clinch with Valdez scoring a takedown to end the round. Round two had Mondragon open with a right body kick followed by a left head kick that landed solid. The rest of the round saw the fighters again transitioning into and out of the clinch with Mondragon being aggressive while Valdez looked for the takedown. Round three had Valdez even more aggressive, but unsuccessful with his takedown attempts while Mondragon was accurate with his striking all round. The decision from the judges was an unanimous one in favor of Mondragon.

Fight of the night goes to JJ Mondragon and Zach Valdez. Both fighters gave all they had and took all the other had to offer in a bout that entertained the fans for all three rounds with each looking to have an advantage at several points in the bout."

Both DOMINATED their matches against tough, undefeated opponents, and won the titles of their respective divisions.

Here are the write ups of their matches by J.R Gordon from
www.mmabuzz.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ricardo McKeney faced Nick Laney for the Clash of the Titans 155 lb. MMA title. There was back and forth action between ground work and standing striking with Laney controlling position near the end of the round by transitioning from a standing guillotine to mount to back control for GNP. Round two saw McKeney initiate the clinch but Laney turned him into the cage and landed a strong striking flurry that culminated with a punch that dropped McKeney. Laney followed up with more strikes on the ground to win the title by way of TKO at :45 of round two.

Main event: In the main event of the night George Ashaur faced Rory O' Farrell for the Clash of the Titans 205 lb. MMA title. Ashaur opened with a long jab, but O' Farrell immediately closed the distance, got the clinch and secured a takedown into side control. On the ground O' Farrell set in a head and arm triangle choke, hopped to side control on the other side to close it off and at :43 of round one when Ashaur lost consciousness the referee stopped the bout and O' Farrell got the title.

Submission of the night goes to Rory O' Farrell for his title winning head and arm triangle choke that rendered his opponent unconscious.

Noah Thomas replaces Rafael Rebello, meets Scott Jorgensen at WEC 43

Dann Stupp, MMAjunkie.com Sep 19, 10:40 am EDT

Noah Thomas (13-5 MMA, 0-1 WEC) has replaced Rafael Rebello and now fights Scott Jorgensen (6-3 MMA, 2-2 WEC) at WEC 43.

Thomas announced the fight on today's edition of MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio).

WEC 43, originally scheduled for Sept. 2 in Youngstown, Ohio, now takes place Oct. 18 at the 18,000-seat AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Benson Henderon and Donald Cerrone fight for a WEC interim lightweight title in the night's main event.

The night's main card airs on Versus, though the Thomas vs. Jorgensen bout takes place on the night's un-aired preliminary card.

Thomas, perhaps best known as a lightweight cast member on "The Ultimate Fighter 5" (who was kicked off the show for a backyard brawl with Marlon Sims), then went on a seven-fight win streak, dropped to bantamweight, and signed with the WEC as a late replacement for Eddie Wineland and fought Frank Gomez at WEC 41. Thomas, though, suffered a second-round submission loss for just his second defeat in more than three years.

Jorgensen, meanwhile, looks to push his WEC record over .500 at WEC 43. The former Ring of Fire and EliteXC fighter made his WEC debut in early 2008 and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Damacio Page. Jorgensen then posted victories over Kenji Osawa and Frank Gomez, but in his most recent bout, he suffered a close split-decision loss to Antonio Banuelos at WEC 41 to move his record to 2-2 in the promotion.

The latest WEC 43 card now includes:

MAIN CARD

  • Donald Cerrone vs. Benson Henderson (for WEC interim lightweight title)
  • Dave Jansen vs. Richard Crunkilton Jr.
  • Damacio Page and Akitoshi Tamura
  • Rafael Assuncao vs. Yves Jabouin
PRELIMINARY CARD
  • Muhsin Corbbrey vs. Anthony Njokuani
  • Scott Jorgensen vs. Noah Thomas
  • Wagnney Fabiano vs. Erik Koch
  • Manny Tapia vs. Eddie Wineland
  • Charlie Valencia vs. Coty Wheeler
  • Mark Hominick vs. Deividas Taurosevicius

Aug 22 Boxing and Muay Thai Kickboxing RESULTS

August 22nd was a busy day for Team Infinite- 2 shows in 1 day!

The day started off with the Red Shield Boxing show in Denver. Initially, we had three girls slated to box. Lauren M's opponent backed out at the last minute, and they were unable to find Tara W a match leaving only Jausten B to box for the day.

Jausten B showed great improvment since her first win, and exceptional listening skills following her coaches direction and dominating her opponent for the unanimous decision victory- she even took home th "Outstanding Female Boxer of the Night" Award!

Later in the evening was "StriKing"- a new Muay Thai Kickboxing promotion in Denver, where we had two fighters Jeremiah P and Chris A. Here are the write ups on our fighters by JR Gordan from
www.mmabuzz.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris Avinge faced Brian Martinez. Both fighters scored well in round one. Avinge landed his kicks and knees well while Martinez got off with strong hook punches. Round two had Avinge start with low kicks that landed hard to both the inside and outside of his opponents lead and rear leg. Martinez was knocked to the mat twice by the kicks and after the second knockdown his corner waved off the fight. Avinge was awarded the TKO win at 1:51 of round one.

Jerimiah Poppy faced Javier Villegas Poppy showed strong technique early, but Villegas was twice able to drop him with head kicks for eight counts in round one. Round two had Poppy open well with punching and looking like he may take a lead in the round. Villegas however survived the early flurry and the combatants spend the rest of the round exchanging telling blows with neither fighter willing to slow their pace. Round three had Poppy land a punch that spun the headgear of Villegas. Villegas was unable to see so he had to cover and wait out the barrage until the referee saw the equipment misplacement and could correct it. The rest of the round had the fighters standing toe-to-toe with each landing very hard techniques and it seemed that either may land a KO strike at any moment. In the end however the bell ended the bout and the judges turned in their cards to determine the winner. It was a close contest and the winner was Villegas by majority decision.

Cornering of the night goes to Infinite Martial Arts for their fight winning game plan to get Chris Avinge the TKO win by way of leg kicks in the second round.

Fight of the night goes to Jerimiah Poppy and Javier Villegas. Both fighters were in great condition, displayed crisp technique, showed off solid chins and entertained the fans for the entirety of their three round back and forth battle. Also, when sitting down to write this article my notes for this bout were speckled with the blood of the fighters as each was able to damage the other.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big thanks to all the friends and family that showed up to support our fighters! GREAT WORK TEAM INFINITE!!!

IMMAA Fighter Rory O wins his bout at "The Ring Of Fire"!

from brawlin.net:
----------------------

"Rory O’Farrell defeated Bogie Ison
at 1:37 of round one.
O’Farrell showed great control once the fight hit the canvas as he instantly moved to the mount and started his GNP before locking in the match ending Kimura.  Unfortunately for Ison it appeared as though his elbow dislocated as O’Farrell applied the needed pressure to force the tap."

IMMAA Fighter Ricky J wins at RMBB!

From Brawlin.net
-----------------------
"Scott Grimm entered the cage to face Ricky Johnson. These fighters came out standing exchanging strikes and kicks. Johnson left the stand action up and moved the fight to the canvas with a takedown.

Johnson had no problem moving on to the mount to back control and followed up with a little GNP. The fighters rose to there feet and began another moment of exchanging blows in the center of the cage.

The fight was back on the ground in no time with Grimm cranking a pretty tight guillotine in half guard. Johnson was not going to tap as he stayed calm and released his neck from the choke.

Johnson seemed to keep some energy on reserve as jumped to mount and started a GNP flurry that ended the fight by TKO at 2:59 of round one."

IMMAA Fighters win at Fight To Win: Round 2!

Congrats to IMMAA fighters Nick Laney and JJ Mondragon for winning their bouts at Fight To Win:RD 2 in Denver Colorado, July 10th!

Here are the write ups on their bouts from
www.mmabuzz.com:

----------------------------------------------------------

Troy Mumme Vs. Nick Laney. Off of an early clinch Mumme got a takedown and Laney was active with his guard. The fighters scrambled to standing and Laney got a slam takedown to set up back and forth positional exchanges and submission attempts and escapes from each fighter. Round two saw Laney drop Mumme with a right hook and he followed it with strong GNP. Mumme worked for submissions and there were several more scrambles and submission attempts from each. The round ended with Laney transitioning from a Darce choke into a Peruvian necktie that Mumme was able to defend. Round three began with Mumme getting a bodylock takedown. However, Laney set in a triangle choke off of his back, rolled to topside control and got a tapout victory due to strikes at 1:55 of round three.

JJ Mondragon Vs Nick Macias for the F2W 145 lb. elimination title. Mondragon was very aggressive with his striking early and he landed an body kick that dropped Macias. Mondragon went to the mat for some GNP before letting Macias back to his feet. Macias then initiated a takedown and once it hit the mat Mondragon secured head control to set up a scramble back to standing. On their feet Macias landed an uppercut that saw the tide of the fight turn as Mondragon was knocked to the canvas. Macias followed up with GNP to end round one. Round two had both fighters striking hard early with Macias Staggering Mondragon with a head kick. The fight went to the mat and Macias worked some more GNP. Mondragon recovered and secured a sweep to escape off of the bottom. In the ensuing scramble Macias ended up in the guard of Mondragon before taking full mount. Mondragon escaped the positon and worked back to standing as round two ended. Round three saw Mondragon pressing the action early with striking before taking side control after stuffing a Macias shot. Macias gained full guard and the referee stood the fighters when the action slowed. Mondragon landed a flurry of strikes that dropped Macias and he followed up with GNP as Macias looked for a Kimura as the round ended. When called upon to give their scores the judges saw it as an unanimous decision and title winning victory for JJ Mondragon.

Fight of the night goes to JJ Mondragon and Nick Macias for back and forth striking where each fighter dropped the other, for each displaying chin of the night, for the technical grappling, for the submission attempts and escapes, for the cardio and work ethic displayed by each and for the class and respect each showed during their post fight interview.

IMMAA Fighter Noah Thomas Makes weight at WEC 41

134.5lbs- Go Noah!!

__________________________________________________________________________________

REPOST from www.mmajunkie.com

by Dann Stupp on May 27, 2009 at 3:15 pm ET

Noah Thomas (13-4), a cast member from the fifth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," has replaced an injured Eddie Wineland (14-6-1) at next month's WEC 41 event.

Thomas will drop to 135 pounds to fight Frank Gomez (6-1) in a preliminary card bout.

WEC GM Reed Harris today announced via Twitter.com that Thomas had signed with the organization, and WEC PR Manager Dave Sholler confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he'll take Wineland's spot on the WEC 41 card.

WEC 41 takes place June 7 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown meets former champ Urijah Faber in the Versus-televised main event.

Thomas, who was eliminated from "TUF 5" by eventual finalist Manny Gamburyan, enters the bout with a seven-fight winning streak, including six straight wins via submission. During "TUF" Thomas was eventually kicked off the cast and lost a spot on the undercard of the season-ending finale when he and Marlon Sims infamously got in a backyard brawl.

He replaces Wineland, who was forced off the card with an elbow injury.

"Noah went out and proved what he can do outside the organization," Sholler said. "Now we're excited to see what he can do in the WEC with his second chance.

"If it weren't for second chances, half of the people in this country wouldn't have jobs."

His opponent, Gomez, enters the fight looking to rebound from his first career loss. After six consecutive victories (all but one via stoppage), Gomez made his WEC debut in January at WEC 38 and suffered a 69-second submission loss to Scott Jorgensen.

For full coverage of WEC 41, stay tuned to the MMA Rumors section of MMAjunkie.com.

Team Infinite Fighter Kate Martinez fights in Japan

On April 22nd, Adam and Kate traveled to Japan for her to fight against Yuka Tsuji (21-1, ranked #2 at 115 in the world!) for the Valkyrie 115lb Championship Belt!

Kate had a great fight with the Champion. She dropped the champ early with solid display of boxing, and after Kate established a high guard that we game planned for there was a "quick" stand up. Yuka was able to get a take down to cross body on Kate, than during the ground fight Kate suffered a busted ear drum from a shot that disrupted her equilibrium and left her a bit "out of it" and just long enough for Yuka to finish the fight. Overall, Kate put up a great fight against the #2 fighter in the world! And even though she lost, Kate is the first person to knock Yuka Tsuji down with a punch!

Kate was so impressive in her performance that the Japanese promoter offered her another fight in Japan this fall. Many women wouldn't have taken a fight against such a tough opponent, let alone take it on the kind of physical condition Kate took this fight on. Congratulations to Kate for stepping up to such a huge challenge- we look forward to her next fight in Japan in October!

IMMAA Fighter Jamie Schmidt wins SNMMA 145lb Title!

Here is the write up from www.mmaweekly.com:

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=8569&zoneid=13

- SCHMIDT AND TRIBOLET CAPTURE SNMMA TITLES
Sunday, April 12, 2009 - Press Release courtesy of SNMMA

Former Arizona high school wrestler Jamie “The Headhunter” Schmidt (8-2-0) captured the first SNMMA featherweight title, submitting Yaotzin Meza (11-5-0) in the opening round Saturday night in the SNMMA "Extreme Beatdown" main event at Apache Gold Casino in San Carlos, Ariz.

Schmidt, now fighting out of Loveland, Colorado representing Infinite MMA, went right to the ground and locked Meza, another former Arizona high school wrestler, into a bone-crunching armbar that resulted in a tap-out at 1:59 of the first round.

Despite an 84–pound weight disadvantage, late replacement Beau Tribolet (2-1-0) won the first SNMMA super heavyweight (266-pounds+) title in the co-feature, using a rear naked choke to submit the 335-pound New Zealand-native Brice Ritani-Coe (2-1-0) at 4:02 of the opening round.

“Jaime is a very good fighter,” SNMMA president Pat Packineau said. “He trained very hard for this fight. He’s a master technician who stuck to his game plan and dominated a very good opponent, Yaotzin Meza. We’re very pleased he won the SNMMA title and I’m looking for big things from him. Tribolet took the fight on only two days notice. He came in and put on a great show, proving that perseverance and staying in top shape can lead to an opportunity like this to win a world title.”

In a classic match-up between a striker, former 2-time world boxing champion Elena “Baby Doll” Reid (3-0-0), and karate kicker, Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (7-3-0), Reid’s heavy hands prevailed in an exciting special female 112-pound catchweight attraction fight. Reid remained unbeaten in MMA action by second-round technical knockout, after dropping the game Waterson for the sixth time via clean strikes, immediately followed by several well-placed punches on her fallen opponent.

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was a special guest at “Extreme Beatdown” to support his friend and Minnesota Martial Arts Academy workout partner Chris Tuchscherer (17-1-0), the first and reigning SNMMA heavyweight champion. The former 2-time NCAA Division II All-America wrestler, Tuchscherer, defeated previously unbeaten Jamie Klair (7-1-0) by first-round TKO in a non-title fight. Tuchscherer used a power drive to bring Klair to the mat and then unloaded a barrage of unanswered punches until the referee halted the action at 1:50.

Royler Gracie seminar

On February 1st our Academy was honored to receive a visit from ADCC Submission Grappling World Champion and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu LEGEND Royler Gracie. This visit was considerably special given the passing of Roylers father, Helio Gracie the founder of Gracie Jiu Jitsu, earlier in the week.

The seminar was a great opportunity for IMMAA students to train with one of the most sought after Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world, who until recently was nearly impossible to book for seminars. Now that Royler has moved to the states, he will have more opportunities to do seminars, however given the demand- it may be a while before we  get him back!

 Helio Gracie passes

On January 29th 2009, the founder of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Helio Gracie passed away. Helio was 95 years of age. Here is a letter from his son, our head Instructor, Royce Gracie:

 January 29th, 2009

 Friends,

Today my father, Helio, at the age of 95 passed on. I am honored to be the son of such a great man! He was an inspiration to me throughout my life. As a Grandmaster of Jiu-Jitsu and the father of "Vale Tudo" he brought Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to the forefront of martial arts. He was a man of small stature but his heart was that of a giant. He proved with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu that even a small man could overcome a bigger stronger opponent by using leverage and technique. He was truly an innovator. Just look around and you can see how his success gave birth to the sport of mixed martial arts that we all enjoy today.

Many of you may think that the greatest thing my father ever gave me was Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. But I want all of you to know that I will remember him most for what he taught me off the mat. He taught me how to be a man, a husband and a father. He showed me how to be honorable, respectful and diligent. He taught me how to be a whole person.

I ask that together we celebrate the remarkable life of my father, Helio Gracie. The greatest tribute you can to pay to my father is to continue to train and share Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, remembering to never lose sight of the fact that what you do off the matt counts more than what you do on the matt. Face life's challenges with confidence, dare to pursue your dreams and live to the fullest just as my father did.

God bless us all!

Royce

IMMAA Fighters dominate at Ring Of Fire: ADRENALINE

Great job to all our fighters last night! All of them took on top competition, and came out on top!

JJ made quick work of his opponent with a beautiful KO.

Jamie DOMINATED the first round of his fight, then was punched illegally in the back of the neck. The fight was ruled a No Contest, so to be continued another day....  we are very proud of his technical display, and the fact that he was winning until the illegal blow!

Noah T got the main event in the Ring of Fire and he didnt disappoint. He caught a guillotine early in the first round, secured the win and the Ring Of Fire championship belt.

Huge thanks to all the family and students that showed up to support the fighters!

MMA Weekly Article: Infinite MMA Emerging in Colorado

Check out this very cool article MMAWeekly did on our Academy!

Though you may not have heard of them yet, Infinite Mixed Martial Arts Academy (IMMAA) in Loveland, Colo., is quickly becoming one of the region's premier facilities with an expanding roster of top, young talent.

An affiliate school under Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Master Toddy Muay Thai, Chief Instructor Adam Martinez looks to develop his students into well-rounded athletes with an emphasis on making sure nobody feels like they're lost in the shuffle.

"We definitely pay attention to all the details and are very personal with every individual that walks in the door, whether you're a professional or just starting out," Martinez told MMAInsider. "We strive to make sure all our students are well prepared and have a strategy for anything they step into.

"We try to magnify the strengths of the individual and we really want to make sure that every moment that you're putting time in, you're making it count. It's goal oriented training, where you're really going to have a direction and have a place that's going to take you there in a positive way."

It's this attention to detail that has helped Infinite not only develop some unknown talent into rising prospects, but has also attracted more well-established fighters such as "Ultimate Fighter 5" cast member Noah Thomas and former Arizona standout Jamie Schmidt to the team; both of whom will be participating in this Saturday's Ring of Fire event in Broomfield, Colo.

"He won't stop coming after you," said Martinez of Schmidt. "He's real slick in his jiu-jitsu, has great stand-up and is a fast learner and a natural athlete that does really well against whatever he's faced up against."

Joining Thomas and Schmidt on the card is one of Infinite's most promising up and coming fighters, JJ Mondragon, who Adam describes as, "A very competitive fighter, very exciting and he goes for the finish."

With some solid established talent leading the way and promising prospects in the pipeline, it may not be long until IMMAA becomes one of the sport's next standout training facilities and teams.

"We definitely work hard at our gym, have fun and we don't hate on anyone else," stated Martinez. "In our gym, if there's one thing we understand it's that martial arts is a big family and we have a lot of respect for everyone out there.

"We enjoy the fact we that we get to do something we love. Whether it's boxing, jiu-jitsu or MMA, it's a joy for us to do what we do."

Team Infinite goes 3-0 at Fight To Win: REVOLUTION

October 17th three fighters representing Team Infinite fought and won at Fight To Win: REVOLUTION.

JJ won his bout in the first round via TKO, Rory won by TKO as well, and Joey won the Fight To Win Championship Belt in the first round with an inverted armbar! Video and pics to be posted soon!

Here is the write up on our fighters by J.R Gordon from www.mmabuzz.com
--------------------------------------------------------------

Fight to Win: Revolution: Results

Friday night October 17, 2008, at the Softball Country Sports Pavilion the upstart "Fight To Win" promotion held its first MMA and Muay Thai fight show.

Joe Jesser defeated Alan Lerma by armbar submission at 2:47 of round one for the FIght To Win 135 lb. MMA title. Both fighters had reversals, GNP and good scrambles before Jesser got the inverted armbar set up from the bottom to take home the win.

Rory O'Farrell defeated Nick Chan by TKO at 1:41 of round two due to referee stoppage on the advice of the doctor because of a cut. O'Farrell got a quick takedown and for the entirety of round one he worked GNP and controlled position. In the second round O'Farrell again got the takedown to work submission attempts, but it was his GNP that opened the cut that got him the win.

JJ Mondragon defeated Martin Weisner by TKO at 2:09 of round one. Mondragon took mount after his second takedown and from the top he worked a punch and elbow GNP attack to earn the referee stoppage.

Of The Night moments:

KO/TKO of the night goes to Chaun Sims for his head kicks leading to a punch flurry to secure the TKO win.

GNP of the night goes to Rory O'Farrell for his unrelenting pressure on Nick Chan to get the win.

Chin of the night goes to Nick Chan for surviving O'Farrell's GNP before the Doctor recommended the bout be stopped due to a cut.

Submission of the night goes to Joe Jesser for the slick inverted armbar after being swept and having to take the win by setting the submission off of his back.

Be sure to check the site calendar for upcoming events.

Best in Health and Training, J. R. Gordon.

IMMAA's Noah Thomas wins TKO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

October 3rd Montreal, Canada IMMAA's own Noah T won the TKO bantamweight World Championship Belt.

Noah won in the first round by tap out from a peruvian necktie. Noah was cornered by his coach, Adam Martinez and UFC Fighter Joe Lauzon.

Here is the write up from www.sherdog.com
---------------------------------------------

"Noah Thomas shocked the Canadian MMA world with a first-round submission win over the previously undefeated Adrian Wooley to take the TKO bantamweight title. Thomas (12-5), spent much of the fight on his back against the dominant wrestler, but the fight turned on a dime when a right roundhouse kick delivered from his back connected flush. A noticeably stunned Wooley staggered back and Thomas pounced, locking in a tight modified guillotine to elicit the tap at 3:22 of the first round.

After his win, Thomas was understandably emotional as he had to deal with much more than a wrestler in Montreal.

“My father died as I was on the plane coming here, and I dedicate this fight for him,” a visibly overwhelmed Thomas informed the crowd upon receiving he championship."

IMMAA's Noah Thomas goes for TKO 135lb WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Canada Oct 3rd

Story posted from www.mmaweekly.com

NOAH THOMAS GOES FOR TKO TITLE FRIDAY
Wednesday, October 01, 2008 - by Mick Hammond - MMAWeekly.com

After a year off due to injury, 2008 is shaping up to be a good year for former “The Ultimate Fighter 5” cast member Noah Thomas.

Most recently, he returned to action successfully at June’s Ring of Fire event, defeating former high school rival Brett Roller in a 145-pound showdown, adding to a five-fight winning streak he started two years ago.

“I had a little bit of ring rust on me, and I didn’t do a lot of things I wanted to do,” said a critical Thomas of his June comeback.

“I think I thought too much in my last fight and didn’t just do what I do; regardless I ended up on top and it was a good experience.”

Building on his return, Thomas now moves down to the 135-pound division to challenge Adrian Wooly for his TKO championship this coming Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

“He’s a good wrestler, kind of a brawler, is real aggressive and comes forward all the time,” said Thomas of Wooly. “He poses a lot of different problems that I’m going to have to solve on the fly.

“I’ve had a good training camp heading into this, pushing my cardio and I’m at altitude – which he’s not – which will help me as well.”

Lowering his weight even further than before will provide advantages not only in this fight, but future fights says Thomas.

“I think I’ll be a much bigger, faster, stronger 135-pound fighter,” he stated. “I don’t think there’s going to be many people my size at the weight who are stronger or more aggressive than me.”

Combined with the size advantage, Thomas will be energized by the opportunity to expand his fan base to Canada, even if the crowd won’t be on his side initially.

“I’m definitely going into hostile territory, into his back yard to take his title, so I have that fueling me as well as looking forward to branching out into other shows,” he commented.

“Depending on how this fight turns out, if TKO has another fight for me or (title) defense, that’d be awesome. I want to stay active, doing more boxing and grappling – trying to stay as busy as possible.”

Looking to continue his winning ways throughout the remainder of this year and into 2009, he has firmly left behind the darker chapters of his career and is making the most of his resurgence.

“My father is actually in the hospital right now and we’re taking him off life support, so he may pass soon after that, so I’m dedicating this fight to him,” he concluded. “I want to thank all my sponsors, my manager Sven Bean and my coach Adam Martinez.

“To all you guys up in Canada, I’m not coming to dethrone your champion, just give you a new one to cheer for.”

IMMAA Fighter Noah Thomas WINS at the Ring Of Fire

Excerpt from MMAWEEKLY.com

"Ultimate Fighter alumnus Noah Thomas had to do it twice in one night, but he did prevail in a grudge match with high school wrestling teammate Brett Roller.

Although Thomas took some hard shots from Roller at the beginning of both the first and second rounds, he managed to weather the storm in each. He dominated on the ground and even had Roller tapping out to a triangle choke, which the referee didn’t see and Roller didn’t acknowledge, late in the first round. In the second stanza, after weathering Roller’s leather, Thomas again dominated the ground, dropping some hard elbows from mount before transitioning to Roller’s back and putting him to sleep with a rear naked choke."

Ralston took home yet another dominating victory for IMMAA that night. He won in the first round after out striking his opponent while standing, taking him to the ground, securing his opponents back, and finishing the fight by TKO. Ralston impressed the crowd and the Tap Out crew with his performance, and we can all look forward to Ralston fighting again soon here in the near future!

Rory’s debut fight started off strong with Rory dominating his opponent with striking and takedowns until the last few seconds of the round when he got caught in a choke after securing another takedown. 11. Hanme Clark def. Jay Wymer by TKO (Strikes) at 2:10, R1

Here are the write ups on Jamie and Kates fights from MMABUZZ.com:

Kate Martinez Vs Sharyan Hefner.  Martinez came into the bout having an IKF world championship in kickboxing on her resume while Hefner had a Golden Gloves boxing background.  What the crowd was treated to was what no one expected...a very technical ground war.  Martinez used a superwoman punch to set up a standing guillotine attempt that she parlayed into pulling guard.  On the mat Martinez was active off of her back with submission attempts and before being mounted Hefner had to defend several close armbar attempts.  Once in mount Martinez worked GNP then transitioned to a topside triangle choke.  When Martinez rolled to her back to finish the choke Hefner defended and Martinez had to switch to another armbar attempt.  This time she got it set in and when Hefner tapped Martinez got the submission victory at 2:30 of round one.

Luke Holdorf Vs Jamie Schmidt.  After a good punch kick combination from Holdorf the action was stopped while he recovered from an accidental ground kick.  Upon restarting each fighter landed good strikes including knees while clinched.  Schmidt scored the takedown and immediately had Holdorf defending an attempted armbar.  After a scramble for position tried for a reverse triangle choke, but Schmidt escaped and set in a Kimura shoulder lock.  Holdorf escaped the Kimura several times, but when rolling to escape Schmidt transitioned to an inverted armbar and he got it set in tight for the submission win at 1:55 of round one.

Way to go Team Infinite!
